Maison MΓ©dicale de Ghlin

Took a little long but smooth process.
πŸ‘‰ MMG homepage

LUCA School of Arts

First client in the new big process. Went well.
πŸ‘‰ LUCA homepage

First client with the small client process. The process needs to be adapted to clients that don't have the time or resources to think in depth about the design of their platform though.
πŸ‘‰ Bruss-it homepage (InVision)

Landing page

Cool style guide and one of the best page I designed IMHO.
πŸ‘‰ "Mon air, mon Γ©cole/Mijn lucht mijn school" landing page

Good communication with Thomas. Style guide quite limited and not easy to work with only red but I like the end result.

Rode Neuzen Dag

UX solution

Rode Neuzen Dag has a specific way of working. In order to match their expectation and our product without reinventing the wheel.

Rode Neuzen Dag Concept Flows #1 + #2
Rode Neuzen Dag Concept Flow #3

Good brand identity here, easy to play with colours and interesting typography.
πŸ‘‰ Welzijnszorg homepage Phase 1 (InVision)

Good style guide and I'm happy with the phase 1. Now I'm waiting for feedback on the three versions but I feel it will be a nice homepage.
πŸ‘‰ Bake-A-Wish homepage Phase 1 (InVision)

Waiting for client's input to start designing Homepage Phase 1.

New features

CMS planning and research have started with a full planning and a listening tour. It is a new feature for me because I've never touched it, hence the challenge πŸ’ͺ

I wrote a piece on Basecamp about the process I'm going through

I'm dividing the CMS (which shouldn't be called that way BTW) in three parts:

  1. CMS
The CMS lets clients manage the content of their platform. Homepage, static pages, blog, FAQ, contact page,... It would use a drag and drop system to build pages and a simple editor for blog posts. Custom homepages should be editable too through a system we still need to define with dev team. πŸŒ‹
  2. Backoffice
What I'm calling the backoffice is actually what we would call the CMS now without the content management (hence the wrong naming habit). It includes the lists of projects, organisations (groups?), transactions (activities?) and users. On top of that one shall manage Finances, Campaigns, Deals, Orders, Tickets, Donations, Votes, ... here too. πŸ™Œ
  3. Koalect dev
I don't know how to call it yet but it would our own part of the CMS to manage and create platforms.
Planning-wise would finish the working prototype of the CMS (1. CMS) by the end of this year as it's the most urgent thing to do. Then a lot would already be designed to add the backoffice and then afterwards the Koalect dev part.

Took more time than expected πŸ—“ and had to cut quite a lot of features.

Dynamic Payment Procedure

Which is now in development πŸŽ‰

Banner 20km

Small banner that will appear on the website to advertise 20km platforms.

Banner 20km of Brussels

About page

The about page is raising from the dead. Please send me your best profile picture πŸ™

Lots of translation from Dtuch and English to French for email, copy,...

Rorkal clients

Clients are calling mainly for problem with their websites.

Admin + office

The search for a new office took a noticeable amount of time time but we're hopefully done here. I'm still taking care of Tickets Restaurant and fiches de paies but it doesn't take long (when there's no issue).

Update Koalect Design website

The website aims to collect processes, relevant information and thoughts regarding the design of Koalect and our platforms. It helps me document my work too πŸ™Œ

Design process

I'm listing UX jobs and select relevant ones depending on the project I work on. First attempt with the CMS redesign which is going well. I have to find a balance between the amount of UX activites and the pace I have to ship stuff. If I have to choose my favorite activity, it would be the listening tour. This was a series of great meetings very interesting. Funny to see how everybody is giving more or less the same opinion but with their own point of view.

Let people know design research and future features. Didn't work well in the NEST as we're not working from the same floor and other people sometimes need the walls. I'm willing to try this again in out brand new office ✨

Curious about how it will go, let's rock it!

Project management

Test of Basecamp going pretty well for client related stuff but also to manage my design process that doesn't fit Jira the way it does with Basecamp. Love it 😍

Client process

Since the new client design process has been setup, I do feel like I'm producing better work. I have less annoying feedback from clients and even if I'm still struggeling sometimes to produce three differents versions of a homepage, the effort is lower than this long back and forth old way of working πŸ™Œ

  • Adobe XD
I tried it but I can't find anything better than Sketch + InVision.
  • InVision Studio
Haven't tried it yet as it's not released but InVision is building a Sketch competitor with more animation features which could be helpful.

I wish indiviuals in the company to be transparent about what they do and who they aim to become. In order to do that, I wanted to share with you what you maybe don't always see.

Ourson 🐻

Last couple of weeks have been pretty though with the amount of work at Koalect and therefore made me lazy when I get home. Ourson is in a slow mode for now but it's only a question of energy management. Each time someone talk to me about Ourson, it gives me a boost and the willingness to continue.

Teaching πŸ‘¨

I had a meeting with all the other teachers which was good. I fit well in the team even if I only teach a small course and people take my opinion seriously.

A List Apart πŸ€“

A List Apart is an online magazine that began as a newsletter back in 1998. It's one of the more respected resource about web design and development and its editor-in-chief is none other than Jeffrey Zeldman. A List Apart is willing to expand their reach in the web community and that's where I'll play a role as an ambassador in Belgium. We would like to organize meetups around a topic we'd choose each month. I still have to figure that out but being part of this big and qualitative community is rewarding and it makes me feel less alone as the only designer at Koalect. I think my network in the web and the fact I'm part of HEAJ team can bring enough people together to have meaningful conversation.

Coming next

  • CMS πŸ’₯
  • Project & org settings
  • Navigation
  • Analytics
  • Street sales

I think what I set up in the last months have been bearing fruits.

To improve πŸ“ˆ

One always has to improve and can't take anything for granted. In that spirit, I intend to talk with others about my work as often as I can. I already started to share my progress through Basecamp and this blog.

Design - Development collaboration πŸ“£

I had a one-to-one meeting with every Antoine which helped to improve our collaboration but I'd like to go further in order to synchronise design and front-end through a design system.

UI design πŸ–Œ

I'm not the kind of designer with a particularly fun touch. This has already been an issue with some clients (ParkinsonFonds, Jessa,...). I'm still improving and am quite proud of what I did with Bruss-it or Greenpeace in that spirit for example.

Health πŸ₯

I had a few things outside work lately (hospital, doctor appointments and kinΓ©) but the fact I work in goals helps me hold deadlines despite this. For other concerns I've heard around, don't worry I'm fine. Doctors are checking things up and I may have some issues but nothing bad for the moment, they just need to be followed up πŸ’ƒ
